Note: The first official Crepuscule release was the From Brussels With
Love compilation, released in November 1980. It got allocated catalogue number 007.
During the months before, Crepuscule had already been
around, existing in very close relationship with the Factory Benelux label. The
first three Factory Benelux records are Crepuscule releases
at the same time: FAC BN 1 = TWI 004, FAC BN 2 = TWI 005 & FAC BN 3 = TWI 006
('Crepuscule' is French for 'Twilight', hence the TWI...).
TWI 001, TWI 002 & TWI 003 however remain a secret even today. The numbers
might refer to Crepuscule's first manifestations, such as the Plein Soleil
fanzine, published in May 1980, or to the unreleased Joy Division mini-LP that should
have been Factory Benelux' first release.
Please note that all Crepuscule Au Japon product with a TWI reference is
listed here too, as well as unique foreign (i.e. non-Benelux) formats.

- From a Crepuscule catalogue: "Live recording featuring Random, Marine,
Repetition, Soft Verdict, Jobson and Swamp Kids." On July 13 1981 Repetition,
Marine, Eric Random, Richard Jobson & The Swamp Children performed during a
Crepuscule Night at Heaven in London. A UK press release was circulated for
a Soft Verdict show at Heaven on July 13 1981, but the band didn't actually
play. Amongst the 6-piece line-up, Michael Nyman was supposed to be playing
keyboards on the night. Four pieces were to be played: Fireball, Multiple 12,
Crumar (= At Home) and Pulse (= Not At Home). Sometime later in 1981 Soft
Verdict performed as a 3-piece in London. Two tracks from the night, Marine's
'A Man And Woman' (TWI 035) and Richard Jobson's 'Etiquette' (RAD 005) were
subsequently released, but TWI 046 as such was never issued.
The title might be a reference to the 1957 Belgian movie with the same title,
directed by Edith Kiel.

- Probably the best CREPUSCULE didn't come up with: some of the finest
artists of their era covering several of the best soundtrack tunes. The
album was shelved, although a mastertape was made. One further Morricone
track ('Amore Per Amora') was picked, but not used on this LP. This
track appears however on the 1991 CD version. The 3 Morricone tracks are
the first 3 tracks from the soundtrack to Alberto Lattuada's Cosi Come
Sei (1978).
A Quando Quango track ('The Good, The Bad And The Ugly') was commissioned
as well but never recorded. The status of Cosey Corner's 'You Only Live
Twice' (see TWI 211) as a possible contribution is not clear.
The sleeve design, loosely based on the cover design of Ennio Morricone
I Malamondo OST (1964), was later used for the Crepuscule Collection
2 - State Of Excitement LP (see TWI 646).

I thought the title to be a reference to the movie La Race des Seigneurs (1974)
by Pierre Granier-Deferre, starring Alain Delon and Sydne Rome, but César Gomes
suggests that it is inspired by Samuel Beckett's Murphy: "To gain the
affection of Miss Dwyer, he said, even for one short hour, would benefit me no
end" (Calder Publications, Montreal & London, 1993, p. 7).
